Community Marketplace Set to Resume

The Eads Chamber of Commerce annual Community Marketplace will resume Saturday, July 7, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and will be held every Saturday thereafter through the end of September. The Marketplace will again be held at Eads City Park and there is no fee for either selling or buying products at the Marketplace.

Sellers are reminded that pursuant to Health Department regulations, baked goods must be individually wrapped and sold as they are wrapped. Additionally, eggs and any meat products must be kept in an ice chest or a cooler. There is no special packaging required for ...more...

18 Graduate from Eads High School in 2007

The Class of 2007 went through commencement exercises on Sunday, May 20, 2007 in front of a capacity crowd in the Eads High School gymnasium. The class, consisting of 18 students strong, was presented to School Board President, William Woelk, by Eads School District Superintendent Glenn Smith for confirmation of degrees earned. Next came speeches from the class Salutatorian, Bethany Kerfoot, who spoke about her memories with classmates and her family, and the Valedictorian, Sanket Merchant, who made the analogy of his class being a puzzle whereby each piece (member of the class) was important to creating the overall picture.

The neighbors helping neighbors event begins at 5:00 p.m. MDT at Old Town, 420 South 14th Street, in Burlington, Colorado.

Hansen Brings Home Gold in Shot Put

Talli Hansen brought a gold state championship medal home to Eads after she won the shot put at the state meet in Pueblo. Despite being hampered by a sore knee, she unleashed an incredible throw Fridaymorning and won the event. Hansen was in third place going intothe finals, but she did not stay there for long. Her second throw in the finals measured 39’ 9" and not only smashed her own school record, it won the state title. Hansen had improved her school record the previous week at the regional meet, but added more than two feet to that record with her state-winning toss.

Three Athletes Going to State Track
May 11,  2007

Lori Weirich, Talli Hansen and Chevaun Glover will represent Eads High School at the 1A/2A State Track and Field Championships in Pueblo. Weirich’s discus throw of 103’ 4.5" was long enough for third place at the Regional Track and Field Meet held in Springfield on May 10.

Youth Fishing Day at Jackson’s Pond a Success
May 11,  2007
On Friday, May 4, the Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) stocked 500 rainbow trout in Jackson’s Pond. On Saturday, May 5, 55 youngsters tried to encourage the fish from the waterwith fishing poles and reels and other fishing gear given away by the DOW. Funding for additional prizes was provided by the Central Kiowa County Recreation District. Judging from the smiles on the faces and the stories being told, the kids had a great time.
